The Awakening Alarm
A Third Great Awakening is now at our door—the door of the East Gate. So far we have focused on the potential the Lord is affording us in this season. Beginning today I want to share a series of warnings accompanying this great potential as a prelude to our Glory Procession. We’re calling this series “the Awakening Alarm.”
Great moves of God are often accompanied by shakings in society and government. The Pentecostal outpouring at Azusa Street came immediately after the great earthquake in San Francisco. The “latter rain” healing revival immediately followed World War II. Billy Graham’s revivals ran concurrently with the threat of nuclear annihilation during the Cold War.
And in the Bible, Isaiah’s unprecedented visitation came “in the year King Uzziah died” (Isaiah 6).
By no means does this imply that every societal shaking is accompanied by a move of God. No, awakenings and revivals are birthed by the Holy Spirit alone as His saints pray through. But let me add to this statement that awakenings birthed by the Holy Spirit are often catalyzed by societal shakings. The shakings themselves become an “alarm clock” that awaken us to reality beyond our frame of reference.

Obama’s Gettysburg Address
Last week’s unprecedented events in Iraq have seemingly usurped a decade’s worth of sacrificial effort by the United States to grant the nation a new beginning—what Civil War president Abraham Lincoln called “a new birth of freedom.” The Islamic civil war between radical Shia and Sunni extremists has spilled over the border from Syria. Al Queda affiliate ISIS—short for “the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria”—has slaughtered countless soldiers, decapitated civilians, and has overtaken Mosul, the country’s second largest city.
These events have once again brought to mind a prophetic experience a friend from the Washington House of Prayer received a few years ago. In her own words:
“In my vision, President Obama was standing at the Gettysburg battlefield in front of the white wall that has on it an inscription of the Gettysburg Address. He seemed overcome with sorrow, as though he knew that whatever words he spoke would not bring the dead in fresh graves on the battlefield back to life.
The President chose his words with hesitation and grief (I don’t know what he said), and as he finished the graves started opening up. Men in revolutionary war-era clothing and hats stood up from the graves, holding out Bibles in their right hands as though they were preaching.
Then I “woke up” or came out of the vision and heard the following words: MR. PRESIDENT, PREPARE YOUR GETTYSBURG ADDRESS!”
Civil War, Revolution & Awakening
Lets perceive what the Lord is conveying. Revolutionary war soldiers were coming out of graves as preachers. At the same time, President Obama was summoned before God to prepare his Gettysburg Address.
There was no way our friend could have known of the extraordinary destabilization of Iraq just this week. But the clear implication of this vision is that President Obama would one day face a civil war.
I once thought this warning of civil war pertained only to America. Granted, we as Americans have rarely been so divided on national principles as this very hour. But we have become united in grief as we watch Iraq’s fragile union, held together by the blood and resolve of our soldiers, succumb to sectarian rebels. Their vision of a radical Sunni caliphate has every potential to plunge the entire Mideast into an Islamic civil war.
In the vision, it was amidst civil war that the Lord began raising up revolutionary soldiers out of their graves. Preachers and prophets. Awakeners and intercessors. Spiritual revolutionaries.
Our friend saw revolutionary soldiers coming up out of their graves. To grasp the scope of this vision, it is vital to understand that Jesus’ definition of awakening is life from the dead. “Lazarus our friend has fallen asleep,” Jesus declared. “But I go that I may awaken him from slumber!” (John 11:11).
Prophetically, the vision is prophesying God’s awakening army. Spiritual revolutionaries who will not stop until spiritual powers tied to our nation are overthrown, and God’s long-awaited move of the Spirit sweeps multitudes into His Kingdom.
No coincidence we are now preparing for the 13 Colonies Prayer Journey, with the “Appeal to Heaven” at Faneuil Hall Boston. Remember that Faneuil Hall is where Boston’s firebrands originally gathered and mobilized towards the American Revolution. We are calling all awakeners, circuit riders, healers, prophets and intercessors especially from the 13 Colonies to join together for breakthrough. God’s awakening alarm is now sounding, and it’s time for the revolutionaries to ride!
