State of the Union Prayer
Tonight the top leaders from all three branches of American government convene at the Capitol for President Obama’s State of the Union address. In light of recent events, please pray immediately for security for the event. Ask the Lord to expose and restrain the enemy and establish His covenant.
No King but Jesus!
The Lord Will Contend
Today is Turnaround Tuesday. What an incredible time to be praying for your children and family! I want to briefly share with you an incredible promise from the Lord for their breakthrough. God Himself promises to contend for the rescue of your children!
“Even the captives of the mighty man will be taken away, and the prey of the tyrant will be rescued; for I will contend with the one who contends with you, and I will save your children” (Isaiah 49:25).
Before we go any farther… please don’t be careless with this promise. In other words, before you launch into a “name it, claim it” tirade, seek the Lord for Him to make His promise authentically your own. Spend some time with Him over it. Learn His language and explore the context. Enter into covenant with the Lord over His promise. And then pray in His authority as He leads. OK?
For me this covenant promise was given at the Lord’s initiation. Which should have let me know from the beginning how much I would need it, but at that time especially I was… well, lets just say I was a little naive.
Steps… Concrete… Forehead
Two decades ago, my daughter Ashley, then 3 years old, tumbled headlong down 15 wooden steps and onto a cement floor. She lay there motionless and screaming.
There was no blood—a great relief. Ashley was cognizant, and could follow my directions. I held her close and begged God to heal her while making preparations to get her to the emergency room.
And that’s when the Lord spoke to my heart “Isaiah 49:25.” I had no knowledge of this passage, and no time to look it up.
Ashley breezed through her emergency room visit. No concussion, no broken bones, just a little swelling. Frankly, this seemed absolutely impossible, given the severity of her fall.
But she was soon back to her normal, whimsical self. After putting her to bed, I spent an extended time with the Lord, thanking Him for protecting Ashley but also questioning Him. Not asking why the incident happened, but why it wasn’t so much worse!
And that’s when I remembered Isaiah 49:25. When I opened my Bible, I was stunned to see how this very promise had already been manifested to my daughter.
I will contend with the one who contends with you, and I will save your children. Come on!
Come into Covenant Over This Passage
I came into covenant with God that night over Ashley and her brother Jonathan. From that time forward, whatever crisis unfolded I knew the Lord would rise up, contend and rescue.
Please focus on this. Jesus longs to manifest not only His eternal salvation to your children, but His protection and care right here and right now! He is faithful and true, and He will wage war against the forces that hold your children in captivity. I encourage you to take time right now to enter into covenant with the Lord over this passage. Seek Him. Ask Him to grant you this promise of a lifetime to you. Ask the Lord to enter into your warfare and subdue it, on your behalf and on behalf of your children. For a lifetime!
From that time forward, there was a “knowing” in the depths of my being that the Lord was overshadowing and protecting my children. Of course there were incidents growing up, but no broken bones and hardly any sickness. They knew the difference between right and wrong, and though they experimented with boundaries they always came around. Even through very difficult times.
Word of Warning
Let me close with another warning. Because I so “knew” the Lord was contending for my kids that I backed off a bit in prayer coverage for them. I took the Lord’s intervention for granted. Especially after Jonathan and Ashley reached the age of accountability, and left the house.
Yikes!
I’ve learned the hard way that this isn’t such a great idea. Don’t ever stop being a parent to your children—especially by covering them in prayer. It is true that in the spiritual realm and the natural realm, you do not have the same authority over their lives—and that’s a good thing.
But it does not mean that the Lord won’t contend any more on their behalf! Turn your heart to your children again. Pray for them. And lets see together His hand of deliverance make a difference in their lives.
Because it’s time for a turnaround!
