DEAR ALTAR WATCHMEN,
FIRST—Jon and Jolene want to thank each of you for building together an altar of covenant this Sunday, the date set apart by President Trump as a national day of prayer to counter the coronavirus. It was such an incredible experience. Who knew when, in the midnight hour of Revolution as we entered into 2020, that the altar built would serve as a prototype for a nationwide plea of mercy—really a global plea of mercy!
As Chris Mitchell declared, the plague stops at the threshing floor!

Jolene received prophetic revelation Saturday night that really helps define our season of consecration. Below are her insights.
Jolene on Exodus 20:20—Consecration for Visitation
By Jolene Hamill. We in the body of Christ have been pushing for the greatest awakening. Praying into it for years and filling the bowls of heaven. If you are sensitive in the Spirit you can feel the thinness of the veil and the push from the other side.
The Lord is wanting to come and as a matter of fact when I was praying about 6 months ago and asking the Lord how long. His answer surprised me. He told me I wanted to come last year BUT… and with that statement his voice trailed away. So in my mind that left the question, “But what Lord? Why didn’t you come? Or the better question what would prevent you from coming?”
While talking to one of my friends from my prayer group she shared some passages out of Exodus 19 and I was shocked to realize as I read them they hold many keys to answer my question. In 2020, we are pushing with desire for him to come. As prophet Sharon Stone from England shared, “from outbreak to outpouring!” And the Lord obviously desires to come and is ready to come.
So what is the issue? What takes us into a sustained outpouring?And are we really ready for him to come?
Exodus 20:20—God has Come to Test Us
Amazingly the answer lies in Exodus 20:20 specifically. Exodus 20:20 for the year 2020.
Then they said to Moses, “You speak with us, and we will hear; But let not God speak with us, lest we die” (Exodus 20:19).
Moses responded:
And Moses said to the people, “Do not fear; for God has come to test you, and that His fear may be before you, so that you may not sin” (Exodus 20:20).
This was followed by the God-to-man version of social distancing.
So the people stood afar off…. (Exodus 20:21).
In this season God is coming to test us, allow his fear to come before us so we do not sin. Sin in the camp seems to be the answer. As a matter of fact all of chapter 19 is about the children of Israel after they came out of Egypt and journeyed in the Wilderness of Sinai. They were camped before the mountain. The mountain where the Lord dwells. I believe prophetically that is a picture of where we are right now. Camped before the mountain where the Lord dwells. We have come out of Egypt and we are coming through and out of the wilderness. The Lord tells Moses to tell us he has bore us on eagles wings and brought us to himself. He has brought us to the foot of the mountain. Brought us to himself. We should all be shouting for joy for where we are positioned right now. But now what?
Verse 5 states the requirements:
‘Now therefore , if you will indeed obey my voice and keep my Covenant, then you shall be a special treasure to Me above all people; for the earth is Mine. ‘And you shall be to me a kingdom of priests and a HOLY NATION’ (Exodus 19:5-6).
This scripture states clearly his intent. He desires for us to be his special treasure. Special to him above all people. And the end of the scripture says and by the way the earth is mine. Both the earth and the people are special treasures to me and I am ready to have them all to myself.
This is where the passages get interesting.
Then the Lord said to Moses, “Go to the people consecrate them today and tomorrow, and let them wash their clothes. And let them be ready for the third day. For on the third day the Lord will come down upon Mount Sinai in the sight of all the people” (Exodus 19:10)
The Lord tells him to set boundaries for the people all around. They aren’t to go up the mountain or even touch it. For whoever touches the mountain shall surely be put to death
The Lord set up guidelines to be met to assure that his holiness will not, in His own words, “break out against them.” He then gives the ten commandments to Moses and Aaron. They alone were allowed to come up the mountain.
After the giving of the commandments they were very afraid. The mountain quaked and rumbled. Lightenings and thunderings came forth. And the saddest part of the chapter is the people’s decision. My chapter headline reads THE PEOPLE AFRAID OF GOD’S PRESENCE.
They stand afar off. The commandments and the requirements of the Lord are too hard for them. Even after two days of consecration they are not ready for the third day.
You go Moses……. We will stay here and do what you say. They were afraid of his presence and that he would break out against them. I venture to say that we in the body are in a similar place, although we have the cross and blood of Jesus that cleanses each of us.
Here are some questions to take to heart. Where have we not applied that blood? Where have we taken the Lord’s holiness for granted and come into his presence too casually? Where is it that we are still more comfortable sending someone else into his presence in our place.
Let Moses go.
Consecrate for God’s Visitation
Are we still stuck in a priestly mindset when we are all called to be his special treasure? Are we still sending Moses? Do we think we are really ready for the third day? Because in reality most of us haven’t consecrated or washed our clothes for the first 2 days as required.
I believe we are entering into a period of fasting and consecration. We are needing to stay here for as long as the Lord directs. So we can be ready for the third day.
Jon and I have been told to shelter in place in this season. For us the consecration and repentance has been until we get it right. We want to come to the mountain Holy and clean. Taking the 5 steps he has stated in Exodus 19:5:
- Obey his voice
- Keep my covenant
- Become a special treasure unto me
- All the earth is His
- We shall be to him a kingdom of priests and a holy nation
If you are like me, you realize there are parts of these instructions which we have done really well in observing. We get the covenant, we teach the covenant and we live the covenant. Other areas, such as strict obedience, we need some help to further attain.
So let’s celebrate the areas we are good at and come up higher in the areas we struggle in. Repentance is the key in this hour. Come Lord Jesus come! But let us be consecrated for the visitation.
“Be ready for the Third Day…” (Exodus 19:15)
On the third day… visitation! I have personally had experiences where the weighty presence of the Lord has come and I can tell you first hand that my first reaction was awareness of His holiness, and consequently my great sin. To the extent I shrunk back with a fear that the Lord might actually destroy me in his holiness. It is an awe-inspiring experience but believe you me I was very aware of my uncleanness.
And I’m pretty sure that’s what the people of God experienced by the mountain.
“Then it came to pass on the third day, in the morning, that there were thunderings and lightnings, and a thick cloud on the mountain: and the sound of the trumpets very loud. So that all the people who were in the camp TREMBLED…” (Exodus 19:6).
An entire nation trembled with fear, worried that God might break out against them. Today many people are trembling with fear as well. I feel that many are gaining an awareness of their own blockages.
Moses took the people towards the mountain and the whole mountain quaked greatly. We are drawing near to the mountain of the Lord and things are quaking greatly in the earth and the people are trembling. Why is that? I would venture to say as we grow closer to the mountain of the Lord or the place where the Lord dwells the more the earth shakes and the more the people tremble.
We know we aren’t read,y so we have been sending Moses instead. Moses you go…

And from Exodus 20:20.
And Moses said to the people, “Do not fear; for God has come to test you, and that His fear may be before you, so that you may not sin.” So the people stood afar off, but Moses drew near the thick darkness where God was (Exodus 20:20)
In these passages the people chose to stay clear of God. The Lord had just given the Ten Commandments and told them to consecrate themselves for 2 days. The people were aware of there uncleanness and that he required a holy nation. They chose not to come near God personally; instead they chose a man to stand for them. You go Moses, what He requires is too much for me.
The truth of the matter is always what the Lord requires is too much for all of us! That is why we need Jesus. A personal relationship with Jesus. Not one priest that stands in for us all and the rest of us are afraid of his presence. The bold print in my Bible highlights the issue. It is entitled, “The People afraid of God’s Presence.” Things are no different today my friends. We all someway or another believe that God requires too much of us and he will break out against us.
So on one hand I feel we are right on the precipice of the Greatest awakening and visitation from the Lord but on the other hand we are not ready like we think we are. Many ministries are calling for consecration and fasting in this season. Many are hearing the call. I believe it is because we are very aware that the membrane between heaven and earth is very thin right now. The prayers we have prayed for years are pushing on heaven and the Lord is wanting to come down. But just like when Moses and the Israelites were in that position. The Lord warned that their uncleanness would cause him to “break out” against them. They weren’t ready for the weight of his presence. The lord doesn’t want just one priest like Moses to come. He wants us all to come. He is looking for priests and a holy nation. Lets consecrate ourselves for 2 days and get ready for the third day. Are we ready?
I find it amazing that the key scripture in these passages are Exodus 2020. The Lord has a great sense of humor. We are living in Exodus 20:20. And He is after a holy nation! Again, lets devote ourselves to:
- Obey His voice
- Keep His covenant
- Become a special treasure to Him
- All the earth is His
- We shall not only be a kingdom of priests but a holy nation!
