First—tonight at midnight I will be joining you onsite in Washington DC for the conference prayer call. I really feel impressed by the Lord to walk and pray through many of the areas that have been highlighted by recent prophetic warnings.
I awoke this morning with this mandate. The more I have been praying, the more the warnings have resonated in my spirit as being genuine. And it didn’t help that, when I glanced at the clock, the time was 9:11 am.
Hey! Don’t get on my case for sleeping in. I’m on the night watch! Further, I actually awoke long beforehand. Wrestling with this very topic.
Discerning Genuine Warnings
One of the most difficult tasks Jolene and I face is to discern and steward prophetic warnings. We all know there’s a lot of conspiracy and hype out there, and many times authentic warnings are drowned out by the prevalence of the false.
Which ones genuinely come from the heart of the Lord? Is the timing correct? How should the warnings be presented, and what is the Lord calling us to do to repair the breach and see preservation?
Most of the time, it’s simply better to be safe than sorry. Never hurts to pray! Yet I would argue this is actually a cop-out. Far too often, contemporary warnings are based on hype, conspiracy, prejudice and bad theology rather than the true counsel of God. To validate these warnings is to literally embrace and perpetuate deception.
In discerning the true from the false, my best counsel is that there’s always “weight in the wait.” Seek the Lord for discernment and confirmation… and then wait for His response! Over and over again I have found that the Lord will confirm, as only He can, warnings which are truly from His Throne.
Miracle of Preservation—True Story
A decade ago, while living in Frederick MD, I felt an overwhelming sense to immediately pray for the protection of Washington DC. I was working as a contractor for the Department of Homeland Security at the time. The burden was very pressing, and when I ran into a friend in the intelligence community, I shared my burden with him. I remember him saying something noncommittal, like “it’s really good that you’re praying.”
I prayed through as best I could until a sense of peace came, and the burden lifted. A few days later I saw my friend again at church. He didn’t say what was going on, and I didn’t ask. But I will never forget this man looking me squarely in the eyes and telling me, “I honestly don’t know how we made it through the weekend.”
This experience taught me a life-changing lesson. Hoping these points will help you.
First, trust and take seriously the Lord’s personal communication with you—and even more, His ability to communicate with you personally and make His message clear.
Second, you do not need to know all that is transpiring to gain breakthrough and secure preservation through prayer. Your knowledge is not the key—your prayer partnership with Holy Spirit is the key. Yield to Him in prayer, focusing on praying in the Spirit and allowing Him to bring you understanding.
Third, pray through. As Daniel conveyed, “I kept watching until…” (Daniel 7:9). The difference between prophetic perceptions and securing God’s intended results through prayer is often one simple word—until. Pray until!
Fourth, the best result is often no result! In this experience I could not get away from the urgency in my spirit to pray for our nation, and specifically for the protection of Washington DC. I knew when this burden of the Spirit enveloped me, and I knew when it lifted.
But if my friend in the intelligence community had not shared with me the miracle of preservation that played out before his eyes, I would never have known the impact of this time of intercession.
And you know what? That’s ok.
Tangible results are always the goal. In fact, the role of an intercessor is to stand with God in prayer and action until His intended result is manifested on earth as in heaven. A lack of sustained results is often a clear indication a person is dwelling more in the realm of fantasy than authentic, Spirit-empowered faith.
But the balance of this truth is that you will not always know the results of your intercession. Because often the greatest result of your intercession is often that the evil the enemy was trying to bring was actually halted before his plans could be hatched!
In other words, no news can be good news.
Vigilant Wait
So friends, here’s to another relatively predictable and boring Memorial Day weekend. With news reports on the flags at Arlington Cemetery, making a splash at beaches and pools, and the true and sacred debt we owe our veterans who secured our future in freedom.
That said, something is honestly up, and the warnings are genuine. We truly need to continue praying until. Please continue your vigilant wait!
