TURNAROUND DECREES! To order CLICK HERE.

DEAR FRIENDS,TUESDAY EVENING MARKS THE BEGINNING of Yom Kippur—literally translated “the day of atonement.”  In Jewish understanding, it is the holiest day of the year, the day when the high priest makes atonement for the nation and people God calls His own.

And for the people it is a solemn day of prayer and fasting centered around “teshuvah.” That’s the Hebraic word for TURNAROUND!

And of course it’s also the Hebraic word for repentance. Because they are one and the same.

As we mentioned before, tradition holds that God opens the “Book of Life” on Rosh Hashanah and essentially “pencils in” His decree over every human being. Between the “head of the year” and the close of Yom Kippur, we as the people of God individually and collectively are given the opportunity to “approach the bench” in true repentance with humility, prayer, fasting, and the giving of alms.By this we may receive His forgiveness, and therefore a better verdict, before the decree is sealed on Yom Kippur.

How has this year been for you in regards to your devotion, your alignment with God’s heart and covenant? How well have you walked out your previous commitments to Him? Do you feel you need a better verdict than your actions alone deserve? How about your family?

Yeah, us too.  And lets not even talk about evaluating our nation. HELP LORD!

Forerunner Pathways—The Hidden Key to Teshuvah
Thank God we can together enter into “teshuvah.” Because both personally and nationally, we all desperately need a better verdict than we deserve. Thank God for the precious blood of Jesus!

But lets keep in mind that receiving forgiveness through Christ’s atonement is only half of the process. The other half is to genuinely turn. To make a positive, genuine change in our hearts, our thoughts, and our actions.

John the Baptist was leading an entire movement focused on “teshuvah” when he laid out the ground rules to receive God’s verdict of LIFE instead of discipline. Note that from the beginning of his address, he wasn’t very nurturing. “You offspring of vipers!” He exclaimed. And this while addressing his nation’s leaders!

But when he saw many of the Pharisees and Sadducees coming for baptism, he said to them, “You offspring of vipers, who warned you to flee from the wrath to come? Therefore PRODUCE FRUIT CONSISTENT WITH REPENTANCE…” (Matthew 3:8).

Creating Forerunner Pathways
The “turning” part of repentance is designed by God to initiate new cycles of obedience and blessing in our lives. In other words, to create forerunner pathways which will carry you into a better future for yourselves, your loved ones, and your spheres.

Note that John the Baptist immediately tied repentance with bearing fruit—in other words, entering into a cycle of harvest. That’s really key to understanding Yom Kippur. It is as though the decisions made during this time especially will produce an accelerated harvest that defines your future—one way or the other.

Don’t you want to see your children receive a harvest of generational blessing, instead of inheriting the cycle of generational sins which marred our lives, and the lives of our forefathers? This potential alone makes the effort worth it all.

So lets repent. Lets repair. Lets genuinely turn. And lets see the Lord grant our families and our nation a better verdict than our actions alone deserve. We need this verdict of mercy much more than we know.
