Dear Burning Lamps,
We’ve got so much to cover in prayer today and on tonight’s call. Breaking news first. Matt Lauer, host of the NBC news “Today Show,” has just been fired for alleged sexual indescretions. We will share more on this in a separate post, coming later this morning.
ICBM Test! Korea Crisis Intensifies
Two major stories broke yesterday. North Korea just fired an ICBM, the first one capable of reaching the US mainland. Over months the Lamplighter family has been engaged in intense prayer over this crisis. We must continue. It’s time for immediate intervention to catalyze regime change. And our prayers must break through the highest walls of North Korea’s defenses long before any military action does the same. God’s hand alone can save.
And He will. Keep praying. LET MY PEOPLE GO!
VP Pence at UN—Embassy Relocation to Jerusalem
And in a very under-reported news story, during a speech at the UN, Vice President Mike Pence announced yesterday the Trump administration is again “actively considering” relocating the US Embassy in Israel from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem.
This amazing announcement is very timely, given that today marks the 70th anniversary of the United Nations’ landmark vote which led to the rebirth of Israel. More on this in a moment.
In his comments, Pence said Israel did not need a resolution to call for its existence “because its right to exist is self-evident and timeless,” according to reporting by the Jerusalem Post.
“While Israel was built by human hands, it’s impossible not to see the hand of heaven here, too.”
Pence reaffirmed to the UN governing body that the United States will “always stand with Israel. As President Trump says, ‘If the world knows nothing else, let them know this: America stands with Israel.’”
The continuing threat by Iran to Israel and the Sunni nations of the Mideast were also noted. “Under President Trump, the US will not allow Iran to develop nuclear weapons. This is our solemn promise to you, to Israel and to the world.”
Finally, Vice President Pence addressed the prospect of a peace accord between Israel and the Palestinians. Noting that “compromise will be necessary,” he vowed that “President Trump will never compromise the safety and security of the Jewish State of Israel.”
Remembrance—UN Vote and Israel’s Rebirth
It is more than right to honor this day, and honor the United Nations for making the courageous decision to establish a homeland for the Jewish people in line with God’s covenant promise. And on this 70th anniversary, it’s also right to celebrate the extraordinary achievements of UN Ambassador Nikki Haley to counter the vitriolic legacy of anti-Semitism and anti-Israel sentiment which has haunted the hallowed halls of this institution seemingly ever since.
We must remember that in 1947, World War II had just ended. After the incineration of 6 million Jews in the shoah, or holocaust, Western civilization was still reeling from the solemn fact that the most horrific atrocities known to man had just occurred among nations previously celebrated as the epitome of virtue and culture in the world.
The Jewish refugee crisis was overwhelming. Most survivors were among the pillars of western society. But the survivors had exited the concentration camps completely disenfranchised. Homes lost or plundered. Family treasures gone. Accumulated wealth confiscated and dispersed. Betrayed not only by the Nazis, but also by their own cities, villages, and nations. Even by their own neighbors.
It’s within this context that the nation of Israel was founded. Voted into existence by the UN, but rebirthed by the very hand of God.
Holocaust survivors flooded the land. Yet when war was declared by the Arab neighbors of Israel, none of the nations came to help. Like Ishmael in the wilderness, it seemed the United Nations had simply left them to perish in their new homeland.
Against all odds, the Jewish people prevailed.
Now through May 14, the anniversary of the day Israel declared its independence, lets honor the incredible achievements of God’s covenant people, and the rebirth of His covenant land. Lets draw inspiration from their courage, knowing that we have been rooted by God into their same covenant.
And in the face of the extraordinary challenges of our time, lets regain the extraordinary resolve to face down hatred and prejudice and anti-christ expressions of global domination.
Not on our watch. Never again. This must be our covenantal resolve.
Pray for Bill & Marlene Brubaker—at Yad Vashem!
That said, please continue praying for Bill and Marlene Brubaker, Dad and Mom to the Lamplighter family. They are attending an incredible class at Yad Vashem, the Jewish Holocaust Museum in Jerusalem, led by Dr. Susanna Kokkonen.
Jolene and I were privileged to be selected to attend the class two years ago. I have literally not ceased weeping since. The heinous atrocities. The anti-Semitic roots of much of the practice of Christianity which brought validation to these atrocities. The unimaginable humanity and courage in the face of hell itself. And the miracle at the end of this midnight hour of travail, the rebirth of Israel.
That said, it is amazing Bill and Marlene are attending this class—in Jerusalem, Israel—at such a profound, historic moment. Please pray for strength for them both. Pray for protection from any physical harm. And pray for incredible times of communion with the Lord as His heart becomes unveiled in a way no words can express.
Never Rooted Out Again from their Land
And lets pray that, as we move towards a Mideast peace deal, we don’t make the mistake of imperiling God’s covenant people yet again. Instead we must pray and stand for the continuance of the vision entrusted to us through the ancient scrolls of Amos. In context with the prophesied rebirth of Israel, it provides a mandate which would be wise for all nations to heed.
Also I will restore the captivity of My people Israel, and they will rebuild the ruined cities and live in them; They will also plant vineyards and drink their wine, and make gardens and eat their fruit.
“I will also plant them on their land, and THEY WILL NOT AGAIN BE ROOTED OUT OF THE LAND I WHICH HAVE GIVEN THEM,” says the Lord your God” (Amos 9:14-15).
Covenant blessings to each of you…
