DEAR FRIENDS,
MEET THE PROPHETS and what do you see? A light in the sky guides wayward sojourners to destinations unknown. They are known as sages, or wise men. Likely they are part of an ancient order raised up in Persia by the prophet Daniel. A holy Fire in the desert sands once brought Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, Moses and Joshua into the Covenant Land. Now a star guides these prophets. 

But is the vision just for them or can you discern His movements too? Where is He leading you today?

The sun is setting. Jerusalem is just ahead. Known globally as the Throne of God, it is only fitting that the Messiah the prophets are pursuing will be born there. And the accommodations for prophets, priests, rulers and emissaries are beyond compare. Safe and secure.

Hovering Over Bethlehem
Unexpectedly the prophets are guiding their caravan beyond Jerusalem. It’s dusk, and the star is just beginning to shine. Where to? Hebron? Gaza? Egypt? 

Suddenly the star hovers over a cave overlooking vast fields where shepherds are tending their flocks. The quickest route is through the pasture. A little town called Bethlehem lay just behind. 

Bethlehem. Best known for Herod’s mountain palace, “Herodium,” just on the other side. But it is also the hometown of David, where Israel’s greatest king was birthed.

What would this king think of Herod? With his covert paganism and political alliances with Rome, probably not much. Could it be that this Jewish Messiah the prophets are seeking will overthrow this pretender? Which line will come to rule Israel—the Herodian line or the lineage of David?

Birth Pangs
Loud groans echo through the cave, reverberating through the valley. A midnight cry. The unmistakeable sounds of a woman in travail. A rugged guardian by her side glances briefly outside, pensive eyes screening the horizon for any shifting shadows. The eyes staring back seem only to be sheep. Which means the Child prophesied by an angel will remain safe upon arrival. 

The cosmic delegation of prophets reaches out to Herod, arranging a meeting for later. It would be rude not to connect. To everyone’s surprise, Israel’s ruler seems eager to hear the story of their search for Messiah. Has Herod found religion? Has he gained the faith of his fathers? Bible scholars known as scribes are also on their way, eager to meet Israel’s King and teach him the ways of God. 

In the shadow of Herod, the woman gives birth. Suddenly the quiet fields are illuminated by a visitation. Heaven has literally come to earth. The Light of the world, the Life that is the light of all men, has entered the world.

And suddenly there appeared with the angel a multitude of the heavenly army of angels praising God and saying, “Glory to God in the highest, And on earth peace among people with whom He is pleased” (Luke 2:13-14). 

Not long after, Herod met with the prophets and arose to find Messiah himself. Sadly, not to celebrate Him but to kill Him as a political rival to Israel’s Throne. The ultimate offspring of religious and political spirits, Herod demanded that all children two years old or less be executed. Jesus, root and offspring of David, Messiah at His birth, narrowly escaped Herod’s grasp.

Birthing in the Shadow of Herod
Which brings us back to a question from the beginning of the post. Are you one who discerns the movements of God? Has He conceived a dream within you as well, within your spirit? What’s your due date? 

And why is it so important for you to understand STEALTH BIRTHING? Because it’s vital for 2026. 

Not every ruler who names the Name of Jesus is out to honor or protect your contribution to the Kingdom of God. Like Herod, some are out to destroy what they see as competition. Others may try to assert their “authority” to overtake precious gifts, visions, projects or callings entrusted to your stewardship. 

Many of you will be birthing your newborns this year in the shadow of Herod. Just as with Miriam and Joseph, you need to beware of the spirit of Herod—the Political Spirit. It’s time to shut the gates of sabotage. Join us for Turnaround Tuesday…
