DEAR FRIENDS,
OVER THE PAST FEW WEEKS I have felt a sense of heaviness over Washington DC. Really, heaviness is not the word. Oppression? Spiritual fog? No description really fit. All I knew was the mysterious atmospheric pressure was spiritually very draining. 

On a national level so many things seemed to be going wrong all at once. Never mind the 2,000 mile-long arctic ice storm. Storms of pride and prejudice, accusation and denial, seemed to make a spectacle of our highest values as a nation. Just as we were claiming the moral high ground to act.

Seeking breakthrough, I actually had to get out of DC to hear from the Lord about DC. The timing was crazy, as so many friends were coming into the city as Jolene and I were leaving for a secluded space to seek Him. 

First came the sound of silence. But finally He spoke to me. DO NOT GRIEVE THE HOLY SPIRIT.

His words broke the fog. Holy Spirit was grieved. That was the gnawing tension I sensed over our hometown of Washington DC. Over our torn, yet still-tearing body of Christ. Maybe even over struggles with His conviction in our own lives. 

Remember, as we shared last week, the Breaker breaks open. He is doing His job! Your job and mine is to keep watch, and act on the divine intelligence the Lord is conveying. And friends, this piece of divine intelligence is on top of the pile. From Ephesians 4: 

“Let no unwholesome word come out of your mouth, but if there is any good word for edification according to the need of the moment, say that, so that it will give grace to those who hear. 30 DO NOT GRIEVE THE HOLY SPIRIT OF GOD, by whom you were sealed for the day of redemption. 31 All bitterness, wrath, anger, clamor, and slander must be removed from you, along with all malice. 32 Be kind to one another, compassionate, forgiving each other, just as God in Christ also has forgiven you” (Eph. 4:29-32)
