DEAR FRIENDS,
FIRST—THE BLOOD OF THE LAMB OVER YOUR SONS AND DAUGHTERS! Happy Passover. No better way to celebrate than to declare God’s covenant protection, shalom and destiny for your children. “Even the captives of the mighty shall be rescued, says the Lord. For I will contend with the one who contends with you, and I will save your children!” (Isaiah 49:25).

WE HAVE BEEN TAUGHT TO BELIEVE that the blood of the lamb at Passover was to keep God at a distance as He was moving over Egypt in judgement. That’s not entirely true. Establishing an altar at the threshold is actually an ancient near east tradition that predates Passover by thousands of years. And the altar was always established to welcome a deity in to the dwelling, not to keep it out. 

What were the ancient Hebrews instructed to do on Passover? To welcome in the presence of the Lord. Not to keep Him out! Where the blood of the Lamb was applied, the presence of God was ushered in across the thresholds of homes to form a covenant covering encompassing His people. Those who did not have the blood did not have this covering. 

I’m sure that, from a heavenly perspective, the witness of the blood and the presence was akin to seeing a homes as a burning lamp. Very easy to distinguish from those whose dwellings were darkened.
