An Apartheid State?
As the international “Holocaust Remembrance Day” concludes this evening, news is breaking that Secretary of State John Kerry warned about Israel becoming “an apartheid state” if a peace deal with the Palestinians is not secured. Sec. Kerry made the comment during the Trilateral Commission’s annual meeting, held this year in Washington DC Friday through today.
According to the Daily Beast, who obtained an audio recording, “Senior American officials have rarely, if ever, used the term “apartheid” in reference to Israel, and President Obama has previously rejected the idea that the word should apply to the Jewish state. Kerry’s use of the loaded term is already rankling Jewish leaders in America—and it could attract unwanted attention in Israel, as well.”
Israel on the Trading Floor
I find it extremely interesting that the Lord quickened to me last Wednesday that “Israel is (now) on the trading floor of the nations.” Later that day, news broke of a new Palestinian unity government between Fatah and Hamas. Later in the week, Kerry addressed the Trilateral Commission.
The Daily Beast article continues:
“It wasn’t the only controversial comment on the Middle East that Kerry made during his remarks to the Trilateral Commission, a recording of which was obtained by The Daily Beast. Kerry also repeated his warning that a failure of Middle East peace talks could lead to a resumption of Palestinian violence against Israeli citizens. He suggested that a change in either the Israeli or Palestinian leadership could make achieving a peace deal more feasible. He lashed out against Israeli settlement-building. And Kerry said that both Israeli and Palestinian leaders share the blame for the current impasse in the talks.
Kerry also said that at some point, he might unveil his own peace deal and tell both sides to “take it or leave it.”
Abbas on Holocaust Remembrance Day
Palestinian Chairman Mahmoud Abbas gave an intentional and poignant statement of empathy the night before Holocaust Remembrance Day this year.
According to the New York Times: “President Mahmoud Abbas of the Palestinian Authority issued a formal statement on Sunday calling the Holocaust “the most heinous crime to have occurred against humanity in the modern era” and expressing sympathy with victims’ families.”
The article went on to say that “The statement, which grew out of a meeting a week ago between Mr. Abbas and an American rabbi who promotes understanding between Muslims and Jews, is the first such offering of condolences by the Palestinian leader.”
Confronting the Spirit of Elitism
This Holocaust Remembrance Day, God seems to be exposing the power of elitism and prejudice across the board. News broke yesterday of another audio recording. A Jewish man didn’t like the fact that his young girlfriend, who is black and hispanic, was friends with black people. So the billionaire coach of the LA Clippers warned his girlfriend to stop posing with Magic Johnson on Instagram, and also to stop bringing black people to “his” games. Which, of course, were being played mostly by black people.
Friends, the delusional prejudice of Adolf Hitler convinced Germany and other nations that they were “elite,” superior to others—and therefore had not just a right, but a responsibility to rule the world. The tragic irony of a Jewish leader’s prejudice being exposed on Holocaust Remembrance Day is a warning to us all. The spirit of elitism is as strong today as then—whether in the secret counsel of a coach or the council of nations. Until Jesus changes our hearts, it is actually within us all.
Lord, this Holocaust Remembrance Day we renounce any and all agreement with a spirit of elitism, in Jesus’ Name. Expose and heal the hidden prejudice still lingering within us and within our bloodline. May we truly embrace Your vision of redemption through Christ’s blood—where people of every tongue, tribe and nation are worshiping You together before Your Throne! In Jesus’ Name, AMEN.
So very well said, Jon.
