The friction was tangibly felt today, by me at least. Two concurrent battles raged in Washington DC. As you will see, their convergence in the spirit was very significant.
With unmistakeable prophetic unction, James and Shirley Dobson led the National Day of Prayer to contend before God for the soul of our nation. Meanwhile, both Congress and the White House press corps waged a dramatic battle to gain the truth regarding the Benghazi cover-up.
Abortion: The Creator Will Not Hold US Guiltless
Calling Obama “the Abortion President,” James Dobson spoke about his recent victory in court against government-funded abortions. “Never before has a citizen been required by a chief executive to take the life of another human being,” the veteran broadcaster observed. “To pay one cent for the killing of babies is egregious to me, and I will do all I can to correct a government that lies to me about its intentions and then tries to coerce my acquiescence with extortion.”
The veteran Christian broadcaster then challenged the President. “The Creator will not hold us guiltless if we turn a deaf ear to the cries of His innocent babies. So come and get me if you must, Mr. President. I will not bow before your wicked regulation.”
Though past Presidents have worked with in the National Day of Prayer each year since its beginning, President Obama has never participated.
Benghazi: Truth Held Captive
I watched with ever-increasing repulsion the White House press briefing today. According to the White House spokesman Jay Carney, there was a legitimate reason why neither the President, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, nor National Security Advisor Susan Rice could come forward with the truth about the September 11 terrorist attack in the closing hours of the election year. The CIA had given them talking points.
Can I ask—in an election year, in the land that pioneered free speech for the nations, when exactly is the Commander in Chief and his team ever obligated to follow the PR advice of the Central Intelligence Agency in the first place? Especially regarding a terrorist strike that killed our Ambassador, as well as CIA security, on September 11?
This rhetoric was the last line of defense in response to reporters’ questions concerning the recently-released email clearly conveying how Susan Rice was coached to obfuscate the Benghazi tragedy. According to the email, this coaching came not from the CIA, but from a presidential advisor. Yet the blame for the uprising and deaths of four Americans was placed squarely on the shoulders of an American who posted an anti-Muslim video on You Tube. And the blame for the PR talking points was placed on the CIA.
According to a story posted on the Investors Business Daily, “One of the goals listed in the emails was the need for Rice ‘to underscore that these protests are rooted in an Internet video, and not a broader failure or policy.’ She was also to ‘reinforce the President and Administration’s strength and steadiness in dealing with difficult challenges.’”
From the Heart of an Intercessor
Friends, I know this posting is very direct. To clarify, I am against abortion—and believe that it is reprehensible in the sight of God to force constituents who are against abortion to actually fund the practice. And I am against lies and deceit deliberately perpetuated—by whatever person or party in question.
But I am not “against” President Obama. In fact, a fellow prayer leader seemed pretty shocked when I shared how I have invested more time in prayer for our current President than any other in my lifetime. Just so you understand my words here are actually backed up with deeds. Today I believe I’m feeling a little of what Samuel felt as he watched Saul’s mistakes play out. His spirit was grieved. Mine, too, is grieved today.
Convergence of Battlefronts
Let me close with an observation. I mentioned how these two battlefronts—the battle against government-funded abortion, and the battle for the truth—converged in the spirit today. When we launched the “New Birth of Freedom” project last year, the Lord gave us a clear word that “the covenant with death is annulled.” And therefore, whatever deception has been hidden because of this covenant with darkness was going to be exposed. Note that Isaiah’s admonition is to government leaders in their capital city. From Isaiah 28:
Therefore, hear the word of the Lord, O scoffers, Who rule this people who are in Jerusalem, Because you have said, “We have made a covenant with death, and with Sheol we have made a pact. The overwhelming scourge will not reach us when it passes by:
“For we have made falsehood our refuge and we have concealed ourselves with deception.”
Therefore thus says the Lord God, Behold, I am laying in Zion a stone, a tested stone, a costly cornerstone for the foundation, firmly placed. He who believes in it will not be disturbed.
I will make justice the measuring line, and righteousness the level; Then hail will sweep away the refuge of lies, and the waters will overflow the secret place.
“Your covenant with death will be canceled, and your pact with Sheol will not stand…” (Isaiah 28:14-18).
Jon, this is so good and so well said. I too watched some of the press conference today. I too have prayed more for this president than any other. I understand your heart. There is definitely a convergence of battlefronts. I so appreciate you and Jolene and all you do. I stand with you.
