Passover 2016. The Glory Train came to Washington DC on Friday, April 22. Dutch Sheets ministered an incredible prophetic message on the “underground turnaround,” based on a train in a tunnel plunging headlong in the wrong direction.
And in London on Passover, Friday April 22, President Obama made an offhanded comment, the implications of which would soon rock our entire nation. Speaking against North Carolina’s House Bill 2, which had mandated that men and women must use the restrooms of their biological gender, Obama simply said, “The laws that have been passed there are wrong and should be overturned.”
Most news sources barely noted the President’s comment, again made on Passover. But on May 9 Attorney General Loretta Lynch announced a federal civil rights lawsuit against North Carolina’s House Bill 2, commonly known as HB2, calling it “state-sponsored discrimination.” The Obama Administration mandated that the educational systems of North Carolina America enforce the “civil right” of gender choice which includes granting children access to whatever bathrooms suit their preference, from kindergarteners to teens in locker room showers.
Potty-gate. The controversy soon erupted across the nation.
Potty-Gate and Civil Rights
Jolene and I were traversing the hallowed grounds of the Civil Rights Movement in Birmingham, Selma and Montgomery on May 9 when the Obama Administration made its stunning stand on “civil rights.” We had just traveled by train from Atlanta, where we prayed onsite at Martin Luther King’s historic Ebenezer Baptist Church. It struck me then how grieved the fathers and mothers of this movement must be.
Most are now shining from the great cloud of witnesses on the other side of Heaven’s gate. Their ceaseless and selfless witness to their generation laid the tracks for a miracle that was unimaginable in their day—as America’s first black president came to power.
“I fought for civil rights,” wrote Clarence Henderson, the chairman of the Martin Luther King Jr. Commission. “It is offensive to compare it with the transgender fight.”
In an article for the Charlotte Observer he wrote, “Jim Crow laws were put into place to keep an entire race positioned as second-class citizens. HB2 simply says that men and women should use the restroom of their biological sex in government buildings and schools. This comparison is highly offensive and utterly disrespectful to those families and individuals who have shed blood and lost lives to advance the cause of civil rights. I take this as a personal slap in the face because I was an active participant in the civil rights movement.”
The North Carolina leader is not alone in his indignation. Faith leaders across the state, from Franklin Graham to a united coalition of black pastors, are feeling compelled to take a stand.
“The language of ‘civil rights’ shouldn’t be hijacked to give privileges to the politically vocal while taking away freedoms from people disfavored by government,” declared Bishop Dr. Patrick Wooden, Senior Pastor of the Upper Room Church of God in Christ in Raleigh NC. “The Administration is threatening people of diverse backgrounds—if they do not promote ideas and participate in events that align with their extremist agenda, they will pull opportunity, funding, and the right to privacy.”
My question is— has the man who took his presidential vows on the Bibles of Abraham Lincoln and Martin Luther King refused to embrace the morality so clearly conveyed within its covers? How can open defiance of God’s heart and law—even natural law—bring any measure of social justice?
“What of Our Emotional and Civil Rights?” A Victim Speaks
Remember King’s kids. Red, yellow, black and white, all are precious in God’s sight! How dare we impose the sexual struggles of grown adults upon the innocent hearts of kindergarteners? How can the Potty Gate Police distinguish between those genuinely struggling with sexual identity and the many sexual predators who could take advantage of this newfound “freedom of choice?”
Which “civil right” is greater—the right for a man to identify as a woman and thereby gain entrance to womens restrooms or the right to retain basic privacy and protection amidst some of the most intimate and vulnerable moments of our daily lives?
Here’s some deeply personal insight from a victim of childhood sexual abuse. “Let me be clear: I am not saying that transgender people are predators,” wrote Kaeley Triller in the Federalist, “not by a long shot What I am saying is that there are countless deviant men in this world who will pretend to be transgender as a means of gaining access to the people they want to exploit, namely women and children. It already happens.”
“While I feel a deep sense of empathy for what must be a very difficult situation for transgender people, at the beginning and end of the day, it is nothing short of negligent to instate policies that elevate the emotional comfort of a relative few over the physical safety of a large group of vulnerable people.
“Don’t they know anything about predators? Don’t they know the numbers? That out of every 100 rapes, only two rapists will spend so much as single day in jail while the other 98 walk free and hang out in our midst? Don’t they know that predators are known to intentionally seek out places where many of their preferred targets gather in groups? That perpetrators are addicts so committed to their fantasies they’ll stop at nothing to achieve them?
Kaeley continued, “Is it ironic to no one that being “progressive” actually sets women’s lib back about a century? What of my right to do my darndest to insist that the first time my daughter sees the adult male form it will be because she’s chosen it, not because it’s forced upon her? What of our emotional and physical rights?”
The Underground Turnaround
Right now the engine of this train is leading America not into greater freedom, but the intentional denigration of countless foundational principles which have secured both our nation’s strength and the eternal resolve to protect and defend the dignity and freedom of each individual. That is truly God’s heart.
Where are our conductors, the role models of this freedom journey today? Somehow in our pop culture Obama, “Caitlyn” Jenner and Saul Alinsky have replaced King, Harriet Tubman and Oscar Schindler. And those most vulnerable have now become most imperiled.
But an “underground turnaround” is now in play. At an unprecedented level, intercessors and leaders across the nation are rising up and standing against the societal “norms” being imposed upon the nation in this hour. To those whose courageous stand has cost you the loss of a job or a promotion or an invitation to the White House, know the Kaeley Trillers and Clarence Hendersons of this world are grateful.
And know that together we’re going to see this underground turnaround in our land. No King but Jesus!
