First, thank you for continuing to pray for Dr. Peter Wagner and his family. I have been greatly inspired by the notes coming in from across the globe on their Facebook page, etc. And I am grateful for all who took the time to comment on yesterday’s post. Lets keep vigil!

Second, Hurricane Matthew is now battering the Bahamas and is poised to strike Florida and the southern East Coast. After a devastating blow to Haiti and Cuba, it is re-strengthening. Lets pray for a shift out to sea!

Today I want to briefly share with you a very key Jewish tradition on the Fall feasts and the Court of Heaven. I have excerpted the insights below from a posting in 2010, followed by a prophetic warning from a friend.

Jewish Traditions—Rosh Hashana to Yom Kippur
According to the website “Judaism 101” (www.jewfaq.org): “One of the ongoing themes of the Days of Awe is the concept that G-d has “books” that he writes our names in, writing down who will live and who will die, who will have a good life and who will have a bad life, for the next year.

These books are written in on Rosh Hashanah, but our actions during the Days of Awe can alter G-d’s decree. The actions that change the decree are “teshuvah, tefilah and tzedakah,” repentance, prayer, good deeds (usually, charity). These “books” are sealed on Yom Kippur.”

When the Books are Sealed!
To summarize, Jewish tradition holds that God sets the course for each life on Rosh Hoshanah, literally writing out the future for each of us in His “books of life.” He makes decisions for our future based on our obedience to His will throughout the previous year and years. In the 10 days from Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur, a window is open through repentance, prayer and charity to change our course before these books are sealed.

Beloved, we are entering a season prophetically when the books of destiny are decreed and sealed! Literally, it’s now or never! What are the implications for us as we review the choices of our lives, our churches and communities, our nation?

Preparation for this entire period begins with personal introspection and repentance, a process that intensifies the week immediately before Rosh Hashanah begins. This period carries through to Yom Kippur, when Jewish tradition holds that the books are sealed.

Today a trusted friend of ours confided in us about a very strong impression she received from the Lord during her quiet time this morning. First Chronicles 21 conveys a dire picture for Israel. An angel of the Lord hovered over a threshing floor overlooking Jerusalem, a sword in his hand poised to strike Jerusalem. She felt the Lord was warning of a similar sword of judgement outstretched towards our land.

Is this present, or future? Keep in mind this is the “Year of the Ruling Sword,” according to Chuck Pierce. Could it be that the sword of the Lord is outstretched towards us?

Whatever the case, obviously we have a dire need now to seek God’s mercy wherever we have violated His covenant—personally and as a nation. In this season we are compelled by Heaven’s Court to engage in repentance as a means to obtain a better verdict. Lets take time even tonight towards this end. Mercy!

Covenant blessings to each of you,

Jon & Jolene
