MIDNIGHT RIDE—BURNING LAMP AWAKENING
“Now while the bridegroom was delaying, they all got drowsy and began to sleep. But at midnight there was a shout, ‘Behold, the bridegroom! Come out to meet him.’ Then all those virgins rose and trimmed their lamps” (Ezekiel 43:1-2).
“Lord light the fire again…” This anthem from our first Faneuil Hall gathering, on May 7 1998, was still running through my head. I had just flown from Boston to Kansas City for a groundbreaking conference called “Friends of the Bridegroom.” My friend Jim Dore had arranged for a few trusted prophets to pray over me.
“You are a spiritual Paul Revere,” the unknown prophet began. “You are holding out a burning lamp. And you will be going from city to city, and instead of saying ‘the British are coming, the British are coming’ you will be saying, ‘the Lord is coming! The Lord is coming!’”
“Everywhere You Go, Revival Will Break Forth!”
To this day, I don’t know who it was who gave this word, but it has become the foundational frame of reference for everything Lamplighter Ministries is now engaged in—including the upcoming Glory Procession. None of these prophets knew my ministry was called Lamplighter. They had no idea I just led a gathering at Faneuil Hall, where Paul Revere and Sam Adams and Hancock and Warren and a thousand other revolutionaries rallied to light a lamp called freedom, and engage in the American Revolution.
Two years later I found myself in the office of Cindy Jacobs. She seemed to look right through me, and her prophet finger began to extend. Cindy repeated the above “Paul Revere” prophecy word for word to me. “You are a spiritual Paul Revere,” the renown prophet began. “You are holding out a burning lamp. And you will be going from city to city, and instead of saying ‘the British are coming, the British are coming’ you will be saying, ‘the Lord is coming! The Lord is coming!’”
Cindy then added one simple phrase, which haunts me to this day. “And everywhere you go, revival will break forth!”
It’s Dark Out There
Many wonder why I genuinely believe we are in the beginning of a move of Holy Spirit awakening. After all, it’s gotten very dark out. Many of the pioneers of America’s most recent “transformation” have come into agreement to call good evil, and to label that which is detestable in God’s heart as good.
Morality is now defined by vibes and trends instead of the solid cornerstone of God’s word. As a result, our children are now being forced to use multisexual bathrooms. Imprisoned terrorists receive better health care than our veterans. Praying in the Name of Jesus is labeled bigotry, while open persecution of Christians has often been overlooked or even encouraged. And all the while, the government established by our founders to empower liberty has quite literally been tracking your every move, with or without warrants.
It’s gotten dark out.
The Midnight Ride
But according to the Book of Matthew, there is coming a midnight ride that will far eclipse the midnight ride of Paul Revere. The false illumination of darkness on a global level will be penetrated through by a new generation of Burning and Shining Lamps. Their greatest quest will be to awaken the Bride at the midnight hour. “Behold, the Bridegroom. He is coming! Rise up and meet Him!”
Jolene and I are among many inheritors of this great promise, made alive to us by the Spirit of God directly and by prophets known and unknown. Maybe you are one of these burning ones as well. Just as John the Baptist, you are being summoned by God in the spirit and power of Elijah. At your core, you are dedicated as God’s friend—a friend of the Bridegroom. Your calling is to confront the prevailing darkness and win a covenant nation back to God.
Burning Lamp Awakening
With the Glory Procession this summer, we’re taking our next step, and we believe God will literally meet us with Holy Spirit fire. Future postings will explore this further. For now, get ready for a “Burning Lamp Awakening!” Whether young or seasoned, Nash intercessor or circuit rider revivalist, you are welcome to join and make this east coast bonfire even brighter.
One thing I am confident of—we’re in for a Glory Procession. The God of covenant, the God of Israel, is coming in by way of the gate facing east. His countenance is going to light up the coastlands (Ezekiel 43). As we all move forward, this fire of holy revival will absolutely break forth. Honestly, we will not stop riding until it does.
