THE SCENE: A SPOOKY MOON. A nationwide alarm sounds. And “The Gaetz Gates of Sabotage” opens at the US Capitol…
Gaetz Gates of Sabotage… Sounds like a B-movie horror show, right? Pretty costly performance. But at least from our perch we have an unhindered view. The cool thing is, this spooky B movie is guaranteed to keep playing 24-7 for a long time, even when our curtains are closed. Complete with amateur hour plot twists.
The only thing dependable in the plot is that “defeat is continually rescued from the jaws of victory.”
Punishment for Averting Government Shutdown
Did Rep. Matt Gaetz just get angry at now-former Speaker Kevin McCarthy for making a deal to keep government open? In other words, to keep our soldiers paid, to keep a teetering economy at least somewhat stable, to circumvent disaster for a vulnerable airline industry and all the travelers that would have otherwise had to shelter in place, to continue keeping watch over simmering global conflicts, to continue basic government services that we-the-people have very little idea just how much we depend on?
The anger seems a bit unreasonable, especially when you consider that McCarthy’s staff labored endlessly to find a deal acceptable to the holdouts—covering border protection, the withholding of funds for Ukraine, and an on-ramp to mitigating our relentless deficit spending.
But those seemingly well-intentioned deals were wholeheartedly rejected. And maybe not for all the right reasons. It’s a badly-kept Washington secret that Matt Gaetz has a vendetta against former Speaker McCarthy for a long time now. And for Rep. Gaetz at least, rejecting reasonable deals that would have furthered the Republican cause while greatly benefitting the American people, while keeping the government OPEN, meant that he finally had his opportunity for a spectacular, historic, unprecedented TAKE-DOWN!

Shebna Rules
Holding the American people hostage to fulfill a personal vendetta, during our most vulnerable time as a nation in decades if not centuries, is from my personal perspective the essence of irresponsibility. It’s a Shebna move. Shebna rules.
Shebna. You remember, the guy from Isaiah 22 whom God threatened to roll up like a ball and cast into a far country. Why? Because Shebna used his power to abuse the people he was supposed to strengthen and resource through a desperate time of challenge, a lead-in to war. WITH IRAN, if you are looking for spooky parallels to today.
The Threat of Iran
Only whereas ancient Elam’s quiver was once full of arrows, it is actually now full of intercontinental missiles. And according to the US State Department, the nation is only two weeks away from amassing enough enriched uranium to create a viable nuclear weapon.
Did I mention that the US diplomat appointed by President Biden to oversee a new Iran nuclear deal was actually masterminding an Iranian spy ring? TRUE STORY. But I digress. Shebna slaughtered the sheep he was supposedly shepherding for his own gain, even at a time when God called His people to humble themselves with fasting, mourning and wholehearted repentance TO AVERT DISASTER.
Government Destabilized
But because a political sniper saw a chance for an unsettled vendetta to finally land, the gates of sabotage have been opened and not shut. Ongoing ramifications are destabilizing the Republican Party, the Congress, the government as a whole, and even the nation.
Meanwhile justice is also literally on hold. Investigations holding our current President accountable for egregious actions during his past tenure have now seemingly been put on hold, as chief investigator Jim Jordan prepares to run for the now-vacant Speakership.
And the decision on whether or not to shut the government over deficit spending has now been pushed back to November. Just before Thanksgiving and Christmas. Thanks guys for the B movie thriller. Turning now to Hallmark for a little soothing of the soul. And praying the Hallmark Christmas story prevails!
Just in case you’re uncomfortable with Hallmark—and perhaps my sarcastic attitude here—honestly I am too. Probably like most Americans, I’m trying to keep from grieving. Because the storyline at the core seems all too familiar. Again with defeat astonishingly rescued from the jaws of victory.
The good news is that the House leaders seeking the Speakership—Jim Jordan and Steve Scalise—are well-respected and seemingly very solid. They lead with integrity and won’t be easily moved. Especially because the tenuous agreement between former Speaker McCarthy and the Freedom Caucus that allowed him to gain the speakership has now been abruptly cancelled.
What’s Needed? The Eliakim Shift
Over the past few years we have prophesied over and over again about the kindness God desires to show to our nation. With Shebas deposed, and Eliakims set in place who will rule with hearts to benefit and strengthen those they serve. Like fathers. Like mothers. In fact, Eliakim’s primary spark on the resume God cited was that he would be a father to the house of Israel and the inhabitants of Jerusalem—to the national constituency and to the governmental capitol.
That’s what we need. Speaker McCarthy may not have been perfect in his tenure, but in the end he passed many tests towards this end. Above all he put the interests of the nation above his own.
That said, THE ELIAKIM SHIFT is exactly what’s needed at this time. Lets together humble ourselves, pray, and seek God for a new way forward. It’s time to SHUT THE GATES OF SABOTAGE!
