GREETINGS FRIENDS,
“THIS IS HOW I FIGHT MY BATTLES!” This anthem and many more rang out from a packed-out auditorium at the Pentagon earlier today as Michael W. Smith performed a free concert. Jolene and I had the privilege of helping to host and serving as intercessors for the gathering.

We are so grateful to the Lord for these incredible moments, enthroning Jesus at such a critical time for our military and our nation. There is of course a backstory. I won’t say much except that friends connected us with Debbie Smith, Michael’s wife, while she was on a prayer journey to Washington DC last year. We arranged for our friend Chris Wingate, who worked at the Pentagon, to bring us on a tour, culminating at the sacred grounds of the 9-11 Chapel. Our brief prayer time there was poignant and humbling, as you can imagine. The song “Surrounded” (this is how I fight my battles) kept running through my mind. To the extent I actually prayed for our service members deployed throughout the world from this song.
And the idea of hosting Michael W. Smith for a Pentagon concert was birthed. Chris Wingate took it from there. And through many challenges, today a dream came true.
