This Day in History…
On May 7, 1983 a comet streaked across the skies as a young apostolic leader named Mike Bickle began a 21 day Solemn Assembly in Kansas City MO. It is widely regarded as the birthing of the IHOP movement.
The comet, previously undetected by scientists, confirmed a prophetic word by Bob Jones. Bob prophesied that the solemn assembly would demarcate the beginning of a great end-time prayer and revival movement that would eventually blaze through all of North America, encompassing the miracles of Exodus and Acts. A major part of this was to be night and day worship and intercession “in the spirit of the tabernacle of David.”
He then prophesied a sign–a comet previously undetected by scientists would flash across the sky at the beginning of the assembly to confirm the truth of this word.
This Day in History…
On May 7, 1998, intercessors across New England gathered for a Solemn Assembly sponsored by Lamplighter Ministries at Faneuil Hall in Boston, MA. This historic gathering place is known as “the womb of the revolution” and “the cradle of liberty” because of the fiery speeches given to Boston patriots to catalyze the American Revolution. Revere, Adams, Hancock, Otis all shook the walls with their cries for freedom. NO KING BUT JESUS!
In this historic hall we repented together for Freemasonry and idolatry, repented for breaches of covenant with Native Americans, repented for the subjugation of women. And we came into covenant with the Lord, seeking Him fervently to restore His covenant with our land. We then called for a holy revolution, a third great awakening to envelop the nation again!
Covenant: Framing the Future
Looking back, it was absolutely astounding to see how the Faneuil Hall assembly–and really the KC assembly, though I wasn’t there–set the course for so much we’ve been doing in this season. Divorcing Baal, remarrying Jesus, restoring the covenantal legacy of our forefathers. Pursuing night and day prayer in Washington DC as a perpetual witness to Christ’s covenant with us. And a continual focus on spiritual revolution!
My point is that, for me at least, coming into covenant with the Lord at Faneuil Hall became an epoch-making moment. The Lord has not only preserved His covenant with me, He has resourced me and framed my future accordingly (see Deut. 8:18). And He wants to do this with you!
Spiritual Paul Revere
Just days after the Faneuil Hall assembly, the Lord unexpectedly confirmed this covenant we had made together. A friend had taken me to a conference in Kansas City, hosted by Mike Bickle. I had never heard Mike speak, and knew very little about the legacy that in time would so impact my life. I did know about their Solemn Assembly on May 7, 1983, which is why I felt to hold ours that very night.
Towards the end of the gathering a few prophets prayed for me. They didn’t know me, I didn’t know them, but one prophesied “You are a spiritual Paul Revere. You will go from city to city, holding out the burning lamp. Instead of saying, “The British are coming! The British are coming! You will be saying, the Lord is coming! The Lord is coming!”
They saw me holding a burning lamp, yet had no idea my ministry was called Lamplighter. They saw me as a spiritual Paul Revere, yet had no idea I had just been in the Womb of the Revolution for a Solemn Assembly. Through this “burning scroll,” God confirmed His covenant and changed my life forever. He will do this for you!
Renew Covenant with Him!
I encourage you to set your heart for the future by coming into covenant with Christ today. No better day than May 7, 2013 to review your life, repent where needed, and realign with His heart and purpose.
Psalm 132 is a great starting point. It records David’s vow to “give no rest to his eyes, or slumber to his eyelids” until He finds a place for the Lord, a dwelling place for the Mighty God of Jacob. During the 21 day Solemn Assembly that began on May 7, 1983 in Kansas City, the Lord quickened Mike Bickle to come into covenant with Him according to Psalm 132. Our nation and the nations of the earth have been forever impacted as a result.
It’s worth mentioning that your covenant cry will be honored by the Lord generationally. David found this out, as his vow became legacy even for our time. A forerunner and founding father of our nation, Jean Ribault, found this out as well. As his Huguenot team was being martyred on the shores of Florida, Ribault himself died chanting Psalm 132, begging God that this new world would be a dwelling place for God’s presence.
This can be your legacy too. It all begins by setting your course by covenant with Jesus Christ. Surely I will give no rest to my eyes…
Remember, O Lord, on David’s behalf, All his affliction;
How he swore to the Lord And vowed to the Mighty One of Jacob,
“Surely I will not enter my house,Nor lie on my bed;
I will not give sleep to my eyes Or slumber to my eyelids,
Until I find a place for the Lord, A dwelling place for the Mighty One of Jacob.”
Behold, we heard of it in Ephrathah,We found it in the field of Jaar.
Let us go into His dwelling place; Let us worship at His footstool.
Arise, O Lord, to Your resting place, You and the ark of Your strength.
Let Your priests be clothed with righteousness, And let Your godly ones sing for joy.
For the sake of David Your servant, Do not turn away the face of Your anointed.
The Lord has sworn to David A truth from which He will not turn back:“Of the fruit of your body I will set upon your throne.
“If your sons will keep My covenant And My testimony which I will teach them,
Their sons also shall sit upon your throne forever.”
For the Lord has chosen Zion; He has desired it for His habitation.
“This is My resting place forever; Here I will dwell, for I have desired it.
“I will abundantly bless her provision; I will satisfy her needy with bread.
“Her priests also I will clothe with salvation, And her godly ones will sing aloud for joy.
“There I will cause the horn of David to spring forth; I have prepared a lamp for Mine anointed.
“His enemies I will clothe with shame, But upon himself his crown shall shine.”
I so love your consecrated, dedicated, circumcised, holy, passionate hearts! I am honored to know you, love you, pray for you. You both are BLESSINGS!!!
